España Actual was founded in 2011 by a small group of journalists who had grown frustrated with the way Spanish affairs were being covered — or not covered — in English-language media. The publication started as a weekly email newsletter and gradually grew into a full editorial operation.
We cover politics, economy, society, culture, and the environment, with particular attention to regional dynamics that often go unnoticed in national and international reporting. Spain is not a monolithic country, and we try to reflect that in our coverage.
Our editorial team is based across several Spanish cities. We do not accept advertising from political parties or government bodies. We are funded through reader contributions and occasional grants from journalism foundations.
